5.12 Delivery Vehicles
| Effective Date: | Last Date Revised: |
The Company ensures that all company-owned and leased vehicles are safe, clean, organized, and in good working order. The organization delivers products and/or services to patients/clients in their residences. The organization uses vehicles for delivery purposes, whether owned by the organization or staff. The organization maintains records for all maintenance and repair performed on all vehicles. Staff members operating vehicles are appropriately oriented, trained, and evaluated regarding the operation of all appropriate company vehicles.
All vehicles used for delivery purposes are clean, kept in good running order, and support infection control practices to separate clean from dirty/contaminated items. Items are secured within the vehicle to prevent movement, damage, and breaking of infection control barriers. Items are secured with straps (not bungee cords). Loose rags, clothing or other fabrics are not left in the vehicle. Equipment and products in vehicles during temperature extremes are monitored as directed by management to prevent damage or malfunction following freezing or extreme heat.
Vehicles are properly placarded and exteriorly labeled as needed and are compliant with any licensure, accreditation, DOT or other regulations as determined. If rental vehicles must be used, appropriate signage and labeling is in place if needed.
Vehicles contain items as needed for deliveries, but can also include (when indicated):
- Manifests or lists of deliveries
- Maps
- Lists of contact numbers
- Fire extinguishers
- First aid and safety supplies
- Waterless hand washing gel
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Vehicles with carpeting on the floor have a protective barrier placed on the carpeting to further reduce contamination of the carpet with potentially infectious material. Any carpeting is cleaned thoroughly often and additionally as needed.
Smoking is not permitted in Company vehicles.
