Should You Consider a Brace or Sling When You Need Support?

stabilizing elbow

An elbow brace is a device used to immobilize a person's arm, shoulder, or both to promote healing and protect the individual's range of motion. An individual might consider using a sling for a variety of reasons. Here are some examples of how the Shoulder sling can be helpful for you.

It is easy to use and adjust a sling and does not cause discomfort to the user when using it. These reasons make them popular for reducing pain and promoting healing. Occasionally, medical professionals prescribe slings after specific procedures.

Elbow brace for Hand, wrist, or forearm injuries

Slings promote healing after a hand, wrist, or forearm injury, resulting in a wound or bleeding injury. A slip and fall can result in painful injuries such as sprains and strains. It can reduce pain and promote healing when the affected extremity is immobilized.

Occasionally, a medical professional may suggest a sling for patients who wear a cast or splint below the elbow. When healing is taking place, slings provide comfort to older patients and prevent exhaustion.

Surgeries

Slings often accompany shoulder or arm surgeries. A procedure that involves immobilization is more likely to achieve the desired outcome. It is also possible to be required to wear a sling following the implantation of a pacemaker.

Stroke

It is possible to experience lasting effects after suffering a stroke. There is a possibility of paralysis in a shoulder or arm due to these effects. A sling can provide support and comfort for someone experiencing these effects.

As well as being affordable, Sky Medical Supplies also offers comfortable universal arm slings. Find out how a sling can help you or a loved one gain comfort, and healing, in your own home.

How to choose shoulder support?

To help you choose the right option, we have broken down all the most critical factors.

Material

Neoprene

As a lightweight, durable material, neoprene is ideal for a standard shoulder brace and shoulder ice pack. The flexibility of neoprene is the perfect asset for both braces, as they both attempt to maintain some range of motion. It also delivers continuous airflow and helps wick away moisture.

Polyester

Since polyester is highly durable and can withstand repetitive stress, it is the best shoulder compression ice pack material. In addition to being hydrophobic, this material also wicks sweat and condensation away from your body so that you can use it in damp environments.

Nylon

Each Donjoy's slings use nylon since it cradles the arms and minimizes weight and bulk. With its spandex-lined construction, the shoulder abduction sling offers a snug fit and plenty of support when combined with spandex.

Nylon Mesh

It includes nylon mesh fabric to make our shoulder arm slings more breathable. The Sling enhances comfort and prevents overheating and sweating by allowing airflow over the arm.

Type

should and arm Wraps

A wrap brace fits snugly around the contours of your shoulder, providing mild to moderate support and compression without restricting your mobility. It is possible to accommodate inflammation and swelling by opening them fully. With straps across the bicep and chest, you can wear them over or under clothes.

should Sling

Long-term recovery is made more accessible with our shoulder sling arm supports that bear the weight of your arm and prevent fatigue. It comes with a thumb loop that ensures the correct placement of the hand in a neutral posture.

With two different levels of support, a standard arm sling and an abduction sling, we offer two types of sling braces. Nylon provides lightweight durability, and interior pockets store personal items.

Adjustable straps

Adjustable straps make the garment's size, fit, and position easy to adjust. Customized compression can be achieved with straps around the bicep, and swelling and inflammation can be accommodated with easy adjustments. Braces with an adjustable chest/shoulder straps are easy to slip on and off due to their fully removable chest/shoulder straps. For added comfort, these straps have padding around the neck.

There are two additional straps around the abdomen and forearm of our shoulder abduction sling. Positioning, fit, and immobilization are all ensured by these devices. Over the rotator cuff, you'll notice an extra strap that compresses our shoulder ice pack and support brace.

Range of motion

Stabilizer

Most shoulder braces stabilize the joint by reducing the wearer's range of motion while allowing ample flexibility. Wearing a stabilizing brace throughout the day provides mild to moderate support. Hence, they are especially suitable for those recovering from minor injuries or later.

Immobilizer

To promote healing, the shoulder abduction sling features an immobilization design that keeps the injured arm in place. With the abdominal pillow included, the arm is immobilized at a 15-degree angle away from the body and contoured to the body. High-density foam is used in construction, and you can wash it easily.

Level of support

Mild

A soft support brace may be appropriate when recovering from minor injuries or when the process progresses. With them, you can still perform most of your daily activities with a controlled range of motion. Our standard shoulder brace and arm sling are among the shoulder ice packs, which can be set for mild compression.

Moderate

You can adjust any of our wrap-style braces for moderate stability if you need more support and compression. Sporting activities or arthritis can benefit from our shoulder braces since they are versatile.

Maximum

You should consider wearing a maximum support brace if you suffer from a severe shoulder injury. A series of straps and supports hold the joint in place. For dislocations and soft tissue strains, some products, like our abduction sling, completely immobilize the joint to promote healing.

Our new shoulder support brace, i.e., Donjoy advantage comfort, provides more adjustable support. It has an extra strap built into the shoulder blade for greater compression and stability.

Additional features

for arm and shoulder Extender Straps

The Shoulder Support Brace and the shoulder Brace come with additional extender straps to accommodate larger chest sizes.

Hot and Cold Packs

Arctic Flex gel packs are available in our shoulder compression and standard shoulder ice packs. You can remove it when necessary, so it's a hands-free way to soothe your joints.

Compression Hand Pump

Inflate and deflate the interior air bladder quickly with the hand pump attached to our compression ice pack. You can let out the air by releasing the valve. If you wear the brace, you can remove or secure the pump with a discreet Velcro strap.

Exercise Balls

A foam exercise ball with our shoulder abduction sling helps increase blood flow and reduce swelling during recovery. As you recover, you can use this simple exercise to strengthen your hands, wrists, and forearms.
