5.6 Back-up Medical Equipment/Device

The Company has emergency response procedures to reduce the risk of any interruption of services to patients/clients. If equipment malfunction threatens the patient/client’s health, access to 24-hour emergency services is available for equipment maintenance or replacement, and backup equipment is placed as needed.
If equipment malfunction threatens the client/patient’s health, the organization provides a backup system through manual means, such as a self-contained battery integral to the equipment or a complete second system for exchange. Backup systems are adequate to meet the patient/client’s prescribed need for a long time.
The organization provides a loan or replacement of any rental equipment or device in the event of failure, breakage or questionable performance for any item on rental or loan to a client (as required by the payer). The organization accepts returns of equipment and replacement of items as required by the payer
Ventilator clients/patients who require ventilator support 24 hours a day will have an Ambu-type bag and a backup external battery source in the home. The patient/client will have a backup ventilator in the home. See Module B, Policy ----
Ventilator clients/patients who require less than continuous ventilator support have an Ambu-type bag and a backup internal battery in the home. The organization has access to a backup ventilator that can be delivered in the event of equipment failure.
