Sinus rinse systems like Vive Nasal Rinse can be an excellent tool for rinsing the nose effectively if used correctly. Since ancient times, people have irrigated their sinuses and nasal passages. With them, mucus, particles, allergens, and other irritants can be safely flushed out through the nose with a balanced salt-water solution.
These techniques are considered among the most effective and safe treatments for sinusitis by sinus surgeon Benjamin Bleier, MD, FACS.
Sinus rinses can be done in several ways. Nasal Rinse is the most commonly used technique, which is delivered through the nose by gravity through a small teapot. The squeeze bottle is another well-known device that forces the salt-water solution into the nose by applying pressure to a bottle filled with it.
Allergies, chronic sinusitis, sinus infections, allergies, and the common cold are common causes of inflammation in the sinuses. Sinus rinse kits are safe for everyone to use. These devices are universally recommended for patients recovering from sinus or nasal surgery.
How does it work?
You flush mucus from your nose with a Nasal Rinse, which looks like a teapot. It is helpful to use a saline solution instead of just water with the device to reduce irritation. Nasal Rinse has been used for centuries to clear nasal passages.
Consider using a Nasal Rinse if you're congested due to a cold or allergies. Your doctor may even prescribe nasal Rinse solutions if you've recently had sinus or nasal surgery. One nostril at a time should be stuffed with the saline solution. It will flow out of the other nostril after passing through your nasal cavity.

Is it safe to use a sinus rinse?
Sinus rinse kits should be sterilized before use. Nasal rinses or squeeze bottles are typically included in sinus kits and salt solutions. Sodium bicarbonate and baking soda are mixed to create a salt solution with the right pH level for your body. According to Dr. Bleier, passing water through the nasal cavity is easier.
Due to the device's design does not go into the nostrils very profoundly, so causing much irritation is not a problem. It is possible, however, for bacteria and fungi to grow in the bottles.
To care for the bottle, wash it in hot, soapy water before use or put it in the dishwasher. It is also possible to microwave some newer bottles, which can be warmed up for one minute on high with a bit of water in the bottom.
In sporadic cases, water-borne amoebas can cause life-threatening infections in humans, as can bacteria, fungus, and bacterial growth in the water. Distilled, boiled, and cool water is the best way to ensure your water is safe to drink. To reduce bacterial contamination, you should use all clean water as soon as possible.
How do you use the squeeze bottle?
You can rinse your sinuses and nostrils with a store-bought or homemade solution if you're experiencing upper respiratory congestion or recovering from nasal surgery. It can temporarily relieve breathing difficulties by clearing out mucus. Using a nasal rinse according to the instructions and following safety guidelines is considered safe.
1. Bottle preparation
Make sure your hands are thoroughly washed. Be careful not to touch the bottle part that will go into your nose while you unscrew the top. Using boiled or distilled water, add 8 ounces.
The salt packet should be opened and poured in. Return the top to its original position. Bottles should be covered with a lid. The solution should be shaken or mixed well until it is well incorporated.
2. Rinse the nose
You need to go to the sink. Tilt your head down a little bit over the sink. Begin with one nostril. Squeeze gently with your mouth while holding the bottle up to that nostril. Be careful not to have your breath. Place the first nostril in contact with the bottle and squeeze half of it in. All these are fine and normal, even if the water comes from the opposite or the same nostril. Repeat on the opposite nostril once half the bottle is gone.
3. Cleaning up
Then gently blow your nose after you've emptied the bottle. Blowing too hard can push fluid into your ears, so sniffing gently is essential to avoid building pressure. Put the bottle away after sterilizing it as described above.
It is safe to use sinus rinses when they are used and cleaned properly.
Bottom line
Using a Vive Nasal Rinse at home is safe and effectively reduces upper respiratory congestion. After every use, ensure your Nasal Rinse is clean and prepare your saline solution safely. Nasal rinses should only be continued if they relieve your symptoms. Consult your doctor if the Nasal Rinse doesn't work or irritates your nasal passages.
Some people don't like nasal rinses, so squeeze bottles might be a better solution. Nasal Rinses work similarly, but tilting forward instead of sideways is all required. It may be easier to use for some people. It doesn't matter what you prefer; there is always an affordable, accessible remedy for a blocked nose.
