Holding Chamber or Spacer for inhaler delivery?

Valved holding chamber and spacers extend the inhaler's mouthpiece and direct the cloud of medication toward the throat, reducing the number of drugs eventually released into the air or inwardly to the mouth.

A spacer does not immediately delay the medication, as a result, you should organize your breathing in a way before activating the MDI. Why do we use a Valved Holding Chamber or Spacer with any Inhaled treatments?

How to use a holding chamber with value?

  1. Always read and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Check the chamber's insertion port to ensure it is clean and free of small derbies. Shake well and prime the MDI based on instructions, afterward attach the mouthpiece to the holding chamber port.
  3. It is important that you keep the chamber mouthpiece between the teeth, removing the tongue that does not get in the way and pursuing the lips around the mouthpiece. Activate the inhaler, breathe in steadily and deeply, then hold your breath for about ten seconds. Withdraw the chamber from the mouth, breathe out and reiterate the entire process for the second blast.
  4.  When you are using a mask
  5. Actuate the inhaler, and deeply inhale, then maintain your breath. Place the mask firmly on the face and permit the user to breathe naturally. When the cover concurs correctly, you will be able to witness the valve lidless and closed as the user breathes.   7. Clean the holding chamber according to the manufacturer's instructions or when the unit becomes cloudy or filmy. Make sure it has a chance to air-dry completely before the next dose is needed.
  8. Replace disposable parts as recommended to avoid bacterial growth.
  9. Use a permanent marker to note the purchase date of the holding chamber on the side of the device. Discard your unit when advised in the package instructions or if the team fails to operate as expected. Most insurance plans will cover one device per year.
